Most of us are aware of the basic steps that we should take if we are unfortunate enough to have an accident on the road. Swapping details with the other driver is something that must be done by law and if you want to make a claim for damages then it is of course necessary to have the name of the person you are making the claim against.

For people that have never had to deal with such an event before, what happens next is not quite so clear. If the only damage is to your car then it is a fairly simple process as long as the other driver admits liability. Things can get a little more complicated if you are injured as a result of the collision though. Depending on the severity of the injuries there may be a good case for damages due to loss of earnings for example.

Insurance companies have in-house solicitors to deal with legal matters such as car accident compensation claims but their primary responsibility is to the company that employs them so many people prefer to hire their own. This can work out to be quite expensive and even though it is possible to recover your expenses if the claim is successful, the money still needs to be found to pay for a solicitor in the first place.

An alternative to finding your own solicitor is to get in touch with one of the companies that deal with all the arrangements for you, from getting your car fixed to providing legal help with your claim. There are quite a few of these around nowadays and virtually all of them have a website with details of their services, so they are not too difficult to find. Claim forms can be filled in online which makes it convenient too.

The single biggest advantage of using a company that specialises in dealing with road accidents is that the majority of them do not charge a fee unless they are successful in recovering damages for you. In addition to arranging for your vehicle to be repaired and assigning a solicitor to your case they usually have staff on hand to talk you through the whole process and help with any difficulties that may be encountered.
