For those of who have a busy lifestyle and wish to volunteer can do so as well provided they get the right guidance and tips. Volunteering is an activity which can be undertaken simultaneously over weekends and work, all that is required is motivation and commitment.

Volunteering involves time and effort. You can zero down up on which skill you know the best and work upon it for the benefit of others. For instance, if you know you can teach well, you just need to look out for people in your circle who would be glad to receive your guidance. Looking out for these people will take least time for it could be your servants or their children, the local newspaper boy or your vegetable seller. For this, you could allocate just 15 – 30 minutes over the weekend and you will be extremely elated to help them over their studies. These studies could involve academic subjects, teaching them a language – both in verbal as well in written format or help them in solving test papers.

The other volunteering activity which you could undertake is the fundraising activity, especially if you have a large network of friends and colleagues. Fundraising for a cause could require you to check out amongst your circle if they are interested in contributing for a social cause and undertake to collect them during your lunch hours at office. In case, you travel by public transport, you could even approach your co- travelers and request them to contribute as well. The fundraising activity at this scale does not take much time and you can easily accomplish this during your break hours at work or travel time to and from your home to office and vice versa. Initially, you may feel a little bit odd but as people around you start contributing and volunteering you will begin to enjoy your volunteering effort.

Yet another interesting volunteering activity is to make people self sufficient especially women. In India empowering women means better and happy families for the women are in a better position to manage families and their household expenses while they can have a say in the family matters as well. Women can be encouraged to prepare snacks, handicraft items, seasonal products such as pickles, diyas, lanterns etc which can be sold in the local market.

These women can also set up a packed lunch service which could supply homemade food either to residences or offices. These women need not go far from their homes in order to find jobs or work for they can work within their home. Volunteers can teach women how to market and sell their products and wares. They can be taught how to organize and set up their system and build up their network as well.

These are a few general tips which can be initiated during free time by any interested individual. It does require consciousness and firm motivation to bring about the change within the society. Moreover these initiatives require good convincing and persuasion skills and no or minimal monetary investment to begin with which makes them a no risk venture to begin with.
