Embroidered patches have been a popular decorative application that has been displayed on everything from military uniforms to sporting uniforms. Patches are an easy way to display an athlete or military member’s advancement in their career and their ranking. While the patch was initially used in military careers, the use of patch applications quickly spread throughout the world. Both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America now used custom patches to display achievements and merit with pride. With hundreds of different patches and badges available, custom scout patches can signify anything from assisting the elderly to learning a new life skill. With a variety of different online retailers and patch manufacturers selling unique and creative Girl Scout patches, these applications have become both a tradition and a collector's dream.

Girl Scouts of America is a youth organization that was founded back in 1912 by Juliette Gordon. While the first Girl Scout troop was gathered in 1912, Congress did not charter the organization until 1950. Since 1950, the organization has grown to more than three million members consisting of girls ages 5 to 18. Almost 1 million adult volunteers are involved in the organization and assist with making girl's dream turn into a reality.

While Girl Scout patches are a small incentive the program offers to youth in America, the primary goal of leaders in the organization is to plant values in the youth of today's nation. By providing young girls with a solid foundation of knowledge and values, leaders believe girl scouts will effectively improve society with their learned abilities and cooperation of others. Each small task or project a girl scout completes will increase understanding and will allow these young women to develop values they may not have had before.

A custom scout patch design symbolizes a specific area of development. These areas include leadership, self-esteem, community outreach, education, environmental awareness, financial literacy, health and wellness, science and technology, the arts, and travel. Each category is special in its own way. By earning patches, scouts can display their accomplishments and knowledge with pride and explain how they have flourished from the experience.

No matter what age the member is, each girl can learn life skills while still having fun. While a patch or badge may seem like a small incentive, this small incentive symbolizes much more when young women reach adulthood. Custom designed applications will grow to hold an important place in member's hearts even when they are grown.
