Home help companies work with elderly people and those that need a little extra help handling those day-to-day duties that most people take for granted. Most often, these individuals are older and no longer are able to cook and clean for themselves or pick up their medical prescriptions. Even though this may be the case, there are many individuals that would prefer receiving help rather than move out of their homes. While there are some elderly individuals who would like to spend their golden years in a retirement village, there are others who do not. For those who don’t and who are considering hiring an elderly homecare service, here is a short list of some of the services that they offer.

Light Cleanup: As people get older, their mobility begins to suffer. It gets harder to get around which makes things like cleaning much harder than they were at one time. But because not cleaning up poses a threat to the health and safety of an older person (or anyone for that matter), hiring someone to take care of these duties is necessary. For some people this will mean hiring a home help worker.

Cooking: Cooking is another important task that doesn’t get performed when a person ages. A lack of energy and ailments such as arthritis or a host of others can make cooking for oneself tiresome and difficult. Thankfully, home care companies will perform light cooking duties.

Bathing: Some individuals, whether due to mobility issues or an injury, are unable to safely bathe themselves. Having someone around that can help them get in the bath or shower may be necessary.

Prescription Medication Pickup: Driving is out of the question for some elderly individuals. It simply isn’t safe for them to be on the road. However, because they will likely still have errands to run, it is necessary that they have access to someone who can take care of them. A home helper can handle these types of duties.

An elderly person that wants to stay in their home instead of moving to a retirement or nursing home may be able to, even if they are unable to perform many of the basic duties necessary to take care of themselves. A homecare service employee can perform many of the chores and self-care functions that an elderly person no longer is able to such as bathing, picking up prescription medications, cooking and cleaning up.
