If you have a loved one who is getting older but wants to continue to live on their own even when they aren’t quite able to, consider allowing them to with a little help of course. If you are concerned about their safety and their inability to do very basic tasks, you may want to consider hiring an elderly homecare service. These types of organizations will send in workers who will help with household duties such as cooking and cleaning. They will also pick up the senior’s prescription medications and help them bathe. These types of services can be very helpful and might be exactly what a person needs in order to stay in their home and not have to move out. Unfortunately, not everyone will qualify for this type of assistance.

Some people will need to move to a place where they can get more care and attention. Below, we will take a look at what type of individuals are not good candidates for home help services.

People with cognitive ailments: Individuals with cognitive ailments such as Alzheimer’s disease do not make good candidates for home help care. They pose a danger to themselves if they are not properly taken care of. They risk leaving the home and are susceptible to abuse and/or theft because they have trouble remembering things.

Those individuals that are very ill: Individuals that are very sick need to be in a facility where they can be properly watched and treated if something were to go wrong.

Individuals who have severe mobility issues: A home help company can help those who have trouble getting around. However, they might not be able to provide adequate help for people who cannot get around at all. People with very severe mobility issues should probably be somewhere where they can be watched and assisted around-the-clock.

Those with mental illness: Those individuals that struggle with mental illness are probably not good candidates for a home care agency. They might pose a threat to both themselves and the worker.

There are many elderly people that could continue to live on their own and maintain their independence if they just had a little bit of help. A home help agency can provide them with it. These organizations work with older persons who desire to stay in their homes by cooking and cleaning for them, providing bathing assistance and picking up their prescription medication, all very important duties that need to be performed if a person is going to continue to live on their own.
