Activision's seventh and latest iteration in the very successful first-person-shooter game series Call of Duty is COD Black Ops. The game will be offered across most gaming platforms such as PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Wii and DS. After having offered a few of the biggest releases in the FPS game domain, game developer Treyarch is offering an unprecedented multi-player experience.

In the arena of video games, COD 7 Black Ops is expected to literally be a game changer as the players can collect CoD points (or 'CD') as they play through the levels of the game. As these points are collected they can also be redeemed to not only unlock weapons in the game, they can also be gambled to gain more.

This is also the first Call of Duty game to be set in the Cold war era and features two main characters, Alex Mason and Jason Hudson who go behind enemy lines in a variety of hostile locations such as the Ural Mountains, Laos, Cuba and Vietnam.

The player is placed in an elite Special Forces unit that engages in covert warfare, classified operations and volatile conflicts across the world and has access to a variety of exclusive weaponry and equipment. The player also has the option to play as a member of the special air service, a section of the CIA sanction forces in a special mission that takes you to a 1980s Iranian embassy. Players will also experience abseiling and rappelling down the helicopters, fly the helicopters and shoot the rocket launchers. The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird helicopter is featured as an immensely dynamic and controllable aircraft that is great fun to pilot.

On the Internet, there is more than one call of duty black ops forum that has described the game as the most exciting, gripping and intense game to come from the Activision video games stable. It is widely anticipated that the developers have taken numerous creative risks to take the first-person-shooter experience to the next level. COD 7 offers the player a richer characterization and a detailed and tightly bound plot. The game also lays a lot of emphasis on customization and lets the player tailor their game avatar as per their specifications and interests.

The game features a special Zombie mode where the players shoot forces of the undead, which is also a very popular feature of Call of duty - world at war. COD black ops features great detailing and graphics that include real smoke and fire effects and clearer draw distance. Also, to train those who may find the immense detail, intricate weaponry and game play too much to handle, the game has a separate 'training mode' where you can play against bots and learn the controls.

COD Black ops are one of the most anticipated video games in a long time and are certainly going to be very popular with COD fans. The game is massive, intense, presents a brilliant form of story telling and is very engaging. With Call of Duty: Black Ops, Treyarch has taken a leap in terms of the gameplay and design and has further strengthened its position as one of the foremost FPS game developers.
