When you are riding the road on a motorcycle there are times when you will drive more cautiously because it is easier to get into an accident and this is something everyone tries to avoid daily. In safety class they actually have you practicing how to ride over a piece of lumber at a slow speed so you can lift your bottom from the seat and allow the bike to bounce. When you are caught by surprise by that same piece of word not only do you not bounce you fight to maintain control of the bike.

There are times when you will be riding down a back road and someone’s dog will run out and chase you and you are caught by surprise. Without hitting the dog you swerve and speed up and then slow down and then speed back up to confuse the dog. Hopefully you have also missed the opportunity for the dog to bite you.

If you ride on the highway you can feel the air in your hair. Now if add some traffic some road debris and some dirt or sand from the beach and you have a nightmare. This is where you want to adjust your driving and drive to the conditions of the road.

Construction sites are another hazard, just like cars a bike can pick up a nail in its tire. Going down a highway and then getting a flat tire is very scary. This is when you truly must control yourself and slow the motorcycle down sp you can safely bring it to the side of the road, to get out of traffic.

Everyone knows not to litter and yet you as a rider must keep watch in case someone throws something outside their car or truck window. You do not want to get hit by a flying object at any speed.

Motorcycles have limited options on where they are able to go when confronted with challenging traffic or even road damage and pot holes. If you hit a damaged piece of road it may throw you off the bike and no telling where and how you land will determine the type of injuries you are to suffer. There is nothing fun about being in traction or casts for weeks on end due to lack of attention on the road, whether it be yourself or another driver. Remember to maintain your distance whenever there are cars on the road.
