Free online test for your SAT and TOEFL vocabulary

The Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL, and the SAT can these days be taken online as well, although there are traditional pencil and paper testing places. If you can find a computer with Internet access, this will be your greatest resource in studying for both tests. after all knowledge is power and the internet is knowledge. This is almost a must for any student that needs help with the SAT or TOEFL vocabulary.

English is broken up into four different parts.

· Reading - Your ability to read and comprehend the English language.
· Listening - Your ability to understand things that are said to you, despite the similar sounds of many English words.
· Structure - Grammar and sentence syntax.
· Writing - Your ability to convey an idea or a thought into a readable and coherent form that professors can grade.

These categories are structured for the college bound student, to make sure they are proficient enough to learn abroad. That they can effectively communicate with professors and fellow students. A good knowledge of English words can help an aspiring foreign college bound student. The biggest key to scoring high on your TOEFL is studying the TOEFL vocabulary. The same can be said for the SAT bound student.


If for nothing else but a great resource of English vocabulary words, the Internet will have many practice web sites and a large amount of them are TOEFL or SAT vocabulary oriented. As with most Internet research, always make sure you are getting correct information from accredited web sites. Many are specifically design with these vocabularies in mind.

Of all aspects of the exam, this may be the most important for the student to focus their attention on. For many this can be the most difficult part of the test. With the reading section being another major part of the test. This is to test the students ability to understand words by context and by using the subjects of preceding lines of text and the lines of text after a difficult word, a student can determine a words meaning if they have studied their TOEFL vocabulary.

Some web sites make the process even easier by providing the visitor with an online flashcard session to help a student improve their mastery of English vocabulary. Some of these web sites have choices of a standard website language of their choice to make navigation easier for newer students. Even when taking the grammar or structure part of the test they will need a strong command of the TOEFL vocabulary. Many times the words themselves will dictate what grammatical rule applies at the moment.


Interpretation of what is being said in the Listening portion is crucial for a budding student who wishes to travel and study abroad. Listening is one of the most valuable skills a student can have if they ever wish to learn anything from their professors. A very good grasp of the vocabulary can help you a great deal when understanding certain phrases that may work themselves in to a conversation or lecture. For this section the understanding and ability to discern the meaning of words whether they are Idioms (of which there are many) or even tricky homophones, words that sound alike.

The Writing section of the test is another section that a good grasp of English vocabulary can help a student. If you are having to constantly search for just the right word this can slow you down and make your task all the more difficult. A good grasp of the SAT or TOEFL vocabulary will allow you more options to express yourself.
