It is difficult to understand green card through employment if you do not pay enough attention to the categories that have been stated by the USCIS. The US wants the best minds in the world to immigrate since they want immigrants that are public assets and not public liabilities. For this purpose, they have listed down 5 categories which are as follows:

Category 1: Extraordinary ability

The first category is called EB-1 and is meant for people of extraordinary abilities. People who have demonstrated extraordinary skills in their life of profession are granted green card through employment via the EB-1. As the requirements of this category state, it receives few applications and there is hardly any backlog. So if you are a genius and belong to this category, you can immigrate in almost no time.

Category 2: Researchers

The second category is called EB-2 and is meant for people with exceptional abilities. Here again only highly qualified researchers which have had education greater than a bachelors degree and have pursued their profession for at least 5 years are admitted. Once again there are few applications received with few backlogs.

Category 3: Skilled Workers

The third category is called the EB-3 and is meant for skilled professionals and workforce. Applicants in this criterion must at least have a bachelor's degree and not less than two tears work experience in their relevant domain. Since more people tend to qualify for this green card, there are a lot of applications and the backlog is huge. However there is still a good chance of getting into the US Immigration, even though it may take a longer time.

Category 4: Special Immigrants

There is a fourth category titled EB-4. This is meant for special immigrants like religious immigrants. These are the missionaries spreading their faith in the US. Special rules have been drafted which are looked upon to determine whether you can qualify under the EB-4 visa. The category has a small percentage of the overall number of green cards which are to be granted.

Category 5: Investor

This is a category in which you enter the US not to work in a job but to create jobs. This category is called EB-5 and the requirements here are monetary. You must have a certain amount of funds as prescribed by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services from time to time and must have the intent to set up an industry and provide jobs to the residents.

There are various categories under which you can obtain green card through employment. It is important to study them to know your chances of getting selected as well as what the basic qualifications are.
