NEXT, A METRO EXTENSION?

As road connectivity to Faridabad improves, residents of the subcity are now looking forward to the now Delhi Metro line to get operational soon to bring this town closer to Delhi. According to sources, the proposal to build a Metro line through Faridabad has been approved by the state government and is now pending with the Centre.
The Metro line will be 13.875km-long and has been proposed as an extension to the existing line 6(Central Secretariat to Badarpur). With the new section coming up, Delhi Metro will cross over across the Delhi-Haryana border to cater to crowded colonies in Faridabad. The line will have nine Metro stations at Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 27 A, Badkal More, Faridabad Old, Ajronda, Faridabad New Town and end at YMCA chowk.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the section has been prepared by DMRC and approved by the Haryana government. “The DPR is awaiting approval of the urban development ministry which is expected to come through soon. The construction of the section will start soon after and is expected to be complete by 2013,” said an official. The line will be completely elevated so the construction time required is not more than three years. The section will be funded by the Haryana government since it is out of the territorial bounds of NCT of Delhi.
According to sources, it will come as a huge boon for the subcity where there is virtually no mode of public transport available. It will also reduce travel time to Delhi as the journey from Faridabad to India Gate would take a little over half an hour.”But the real difference will come only when the Metro starts operating to Faridabad,” said an expert.
