Each year a lot of people get injured at work, and most of the injuries happen when people are least expecting them. In their eyes, they aren't even doing anything dangerous, but they get hurt anyway. There are four common types of injuries that are seen most often at work. These include falls from standing, overexertion, falls from a height, and getting struck by an object. Falls from standing are the most common of the workplace injuries, and these include trips and slips, which happen quite often. These can be falls on pavement that has gotten slippery from rain or snow, or they can be trips over simple things like boxes on the floor. There shouldn't be any holes or tripping hazards in a business, and if there are any spills, they need to be cleaned up promptly. If the lights are not bright enough this can also be dangerous, so make sure any burned out bulbs are replaced. These sound like simple things but they can make a big difference when it comes to worker safety.
Another common problem with workplace injuries comes from lifting heavy objects without taking the proper care. If something weighs too much to comfortably pick up on your own, you should ask for help. Anything that you lift by yourself you should lift properly, keeping good posture and using your back and not your legs. Jacks, hoists, and other mechanical lifting aids can also be used. Falling from a height can also be a very avoidable work injury. Naturally it's much safer to stay off of ladders and such, but you can't always do this. Because of that, you have to take precautions when you climb ladders. The ladder should be braced well and should not be slippery. You should also take care to wear non-slip shoes if you are going to be climbing up and down ladders or working in wet or icy conditions to try to avoid falls. You can also avoid being struck by an object by obeying safety rules, wearing a hard hat where necessary, and paying attention to your surroundings.
