When you get down to it, it is amazing how much critical information we all put on laptops. This brings us to the unique situation of The Beer and The Laptop!
Sometimes you put your entire life on a laptop. This is particularly true if you are a business. Everything from shipping orders to account receivables to employee records can be on there. In the case of Croucher Brewing Company, this may not be such a good idea.
As many businesses do, Croucher kept a bevy of information on laptops. The New Zealand brewery kept practically everything on various laptops and, you guessed it, has lost one. There is no word regarding the circumstances [trying to many samples?] under which the laptop was stolen, but Croucher clearly wants it back.
So, what is the best strategy to get back the laptop? Try to motivate local police officials to put together an all out search? Nope. Offer a financial reward? Nope, but you are getting closer.
Okay, you probably guessed. Croucher Brewing Company is offering a lifetime supply of free beer to the person that returns the laptop – no question asked. Before you jump on a plane to New Zealand to perform your own personal search, you should know the deal is only for a 12 pack a month. Still, that is a lot of beer over a lifetime.
Notwithstanding Croucher’s inventive solution to its problem, nobody has stepped forward with the laptop. That being said, it still sounds like a better solution than most businesses come up with!
In all seriousness, this situation highlights once again the serious issues surrounding laptop and data security. A frightening number of laptops are stolen or simply misplaced by business people. These laptops inevitably contain vast amounts of sensitive information and it is really amazing that we as a society seem to not care a bit. It is amazing.
